Mossel Bay is the hot holiday spot that should be on your vacation bucket list. Sun-washed slopes, a bustling town overlooking the expansive bay and the blue backdrop of the Outeniqua Mountains make this an incredibly outdoorsy holiday destination. The weather in June is enjoyable, with average high temperatures. It’s a great time to hit the trails in the picturesque town. So if you’re looking for the best hiking trails in Mossel Bay, travel no further. We have got our top picks for you below.

The St. Blaize Trail: The best of the hiking trails in Mossel Bay

Difficulty: Moderate

Distance: 13,5 km

Feel-good rating: ★★★★★

The Garden Route, specifically the area around Mossel Bay, is home to the breathtaking vistas offered by the St. Blaize hiking trail. This 13,5 km trail lets you hike along the contour of the 30-metre cliffs westwards from the Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse. With so many hiking trails in Mossel Bay, this is a popular one that begins at the cave below the lighthouse and leads you along the path, which ends at Dana Bay (or vice-versa). This hike should not be underestimated but it is astonishing.

Plan for about a six-hour journey as you pass the striking sea views. Be sure to look out for feathered friends along the way, and you may even be lucky enough to enjoy a performance from the dolphins or watch as the whales arrive in time for the whale-watching season.

Please do note that this trail shouldn't be embarked on alone, and transport will need to be arranged at the end of the trail.

Pinnacle Point to Oyster Bay: Short, but testing

Difficulty: Easy

Distance: 3 km

Feel-good rating: ★★★★

A low impact and lovely hike that takes about two hours to complete and trails around the Great Brakrivier, leading you to the lookout point at the Wolwedans Dam. Good birdlife and a little picnic spot seal the deal for a relaxed hike to be enjoyed in the cooler month of June.

Koumashoek Circular Trail: For the experienced hikers

Difficulty: Advanced

Distance: 14,7 km

Feel-good rating: ★★★

As far as hiking trails in Mossel Bay go, Koumashoek Circular Trail showcases unspoilt and exceptionally beautiful fynbos in the mountains. Although this trail can be strenuous, has steep climbs and can take around six hours to complete, it is filled with natural beauty and will be worth every step.

The trail ends at the bottom of the pass, so a reminder that if you left your vehicle at the top of the pass where the trail starts, you will have to add an extra 3 km to get back up to the pass.
